Privacy Policy
Last updated 21 September 2026. This describes what TrueLend (Pty) Ltd actually collects and does with your information right now, not a generic template.
Who we are
TrueLend (Pty) Ltd (“TrueLend”, “we”, “us”) is a South African short-term credit provider, currently completing National Credit Regulator registration. Contact us about privacy at hello@truelend.co.za.
What we collect
When you create an account: your name, email address, and password.
When you apply for a loan: your SA ID number, phone number, residential address, employment status and employer, declared gross income and monthly expenses, and a document you upload as proof of income (a payslip, bank statement, affidavit, or SASSA letter).
When an application is assessed: our staff record the outcome of the affordability check the law requires, including information from a credit bureau report where one was pulled.
We don’t use cookies, analytics, or any tracking scripts on this site. We only collect what you directly give us.
Why we collect it
To verify who you are, to assess whether a loan is something you can afford to repay (a legal requirement under the National Credit Act, not something we can skip), and to administer any loan you take out with us.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your information. It’s shared only with the service providers that make TrueLend work, and, once we’re registered and actually lending, with credit bureaus:
- Supabase — stores our database and your uploaded documents, encrypted.
- Netlify — hosts this website.
- Resend — sends you email about your application’s outcome.
- Credit bureaus (once we’re registered to lend) — we’ll pull a credit report as part of assessing your application, and we’re legally required to report your loan and repayment history to them too.
How long we keep it
If your application is declined, we clear the income, expense, and document details from that application after 90 days — we don’t need them once a decision is made and the retention window has passed. Your account itself is never deleted just because an application was declined; you can log in and apply again any time. If you have an active or past loan with us, we keep those records for as long as the law requires (currently up to 5 years for payment history).
Your rights
Under South Africa’s POPIA, you can ask us to:
- tell you exactly what information we hold about you
- correct anything that’s wrong
- delete information we no longer have a legal reason to keep
- tell you which specific credit bureau a decision was based on, if we declined you because of one
Email hello@truelend.co.za for any of the above. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
Security
Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Uploaded documents are kept in a private storage bucket that only you and TrueLend staff can access — never a public link. Access to your data is restricted by role: only you can see your own application, and only TrueLend admins can review it.
This policy reflects TrueLend’s actual current practices and will be reviewed by a qualified attorney before NCR registration is finalised. It will be updated as the business grows.
